#KartiniMasaKini: Abel Cantika
“Beauty is not always about looks and appearance, but it’s
also from what you’ve done for yourself and other people.”
Growing up with a passion for makeup, Abel Cantika started her career as beauty content creator from Youtube a few years ago. Wondering what it’s like to be in her shoes? Let’s check out on her story on becoming one of top beauty influencers in Indonesia, and her thoughts about the real definition of beauty.
- What is your daily schedule like?
My daily schedule consists of creating content for my Instagram & Youtube channel, meeting with clients, attending and hosting beauty events or makeup classes.
- How do you balance your personal life with your job as a beauty influencer?
Always put your family as the top priority! Everyone must have their own priority in life, mine is my family. They’re the biggest reason for me to work and live. When we’ve set up our priorities, we’ll figure out how to balance our work and personal lives, and hopefully, everything will work out in harmony.
- How did your love for makeup and beauty start?
I think my love for makeup started way back then when I was still in 3rd grade of elementary school. At that time I first began to learn putting on my own makeup. I can say that beauty is my passion. However, it started to get serious when I first created content about makeup in December 2015, with helping other people in mind. Turned out I received great support from my friends on social media who wanted to know more about how I usually put on my makeup every day. I initially started all of this purely to help others because I feel happy when I feel like I’m actually useful for other people.
- Do you have any person in mind you would love to collaborate with? Why?
Beauty vlogger Alissa Ashley, because I love her so much!
- What is the biggest challenge you came across, and how did you handle it?
The biggest challenge for me is when I have to separate work and personal stuff. During work, I feel obliged to always seems happy or cheerful and radiate positive energy, but sometimes it’s hard because there are times when I feel the complete opposite.
- What is your strongest personal quality?
Honest, sincere, and credible. Being in this industry, my biggest concern is the public and I always try to be as honest as possible until I can be perceived as someone who has great credibility. I always give honest reviews and feel very responsible for the trust my audience have in me in my social media. Sincerity, where everything is not always about what I will receive in return. Again, it is back to my initial purpose when I first started this career which is to help other people.
- What is your best remedy when you feel tired or down?
My family, of course! 😊
- What is your definition of success?
Success for me is when I can make my loved ones feel proud of me, being useful for myself, and able to inspire other people.
- What is your favorite Puyo Desserts?
- Say you are given a chance to speak in front of many Indonesian women. What is the most important message that you want to tell them?
You are all beautiful! Every woman is beautiful. We all have our own strengths, weaknesses, and uniqueness. The way to be pretty is to love yourself and accept every flaw and fine points in ourselves. There’s no one who can make us give up and bring us down just because of our imperfections. Definition of pretty is really broad. It’s not always about looks and appearance, but it’s also from what you’ve done for yourself and other people.
